PARTICIPATION AND INTEGRATION OF REFUGEES
Exchange of experience and best practices in cities of the Meuse–Rhine Euregion
To facilitate cross-border collaboration and exchange on refugee integration in the Meuse-Rhine Euregion of Germany (Region of Aachen), Belgium (Hasselt, Liège, Eupen) and the province of Limburg in the Netherlands, SHARE II invites cities and local actors to a cross-border collaboration exchange visit in Aachen, September 28th.
Since the last 3 years, there has been a significant increase in the number of refugees arriving into the cities of the Meuse–Rhine Euregion. Past experiences have shown that an integrated approach that focuses on supporting refugees’ individual strengths and potential works best in facilitating refugees’ independence and active participation in society.
In the current context, now more than ever, there is a need for cooperation between regions, towns, NGOs and civil society - also across borders - to generate sufficient support for receiving refugees: to exchange experience and practices in welcoming, reception and integration.
Co-hosted by the city of Sittard-Geleen and the Dutch Council for Refugees, the SHARE Cross-Border Exchange Visit will bring together relevant actors from the three neighboring countries to present reception and integration programmes in their respective cities and regions, and to consider which areas could benefit from future cooperation. In addition, the programme will highlight civil society contributions and the involvement of church communities in welcoming refugees to their towns and cities.
