In the framework of the SHARE Project, ICMC Europe is delighted to invite you to register your interest in attending a half-day event co-organised by the Committee of the Regions and taking place in Brussels on the morning of May 8th, 2013. The morning programme will be followed by a lunch for all participants at the Committee of the Regions.
Chaired by the Mayor of Lisbon Mr Antonio Costa, 'A City Says Yes! Welcoming Resettled Refugees in Europe' explores the role of local and regional authorities and their civil society partners in mobilising support for refugee resettlement amongst citizens, and influencing resettlement and integration policy at national and European levels.
The event will launch the SHARE and PRO ASYL publication 'Save Me: A City Says Yes!' that captures the successful tools and approaches of the German 'Save Me' campaign for cities and refugee resettlement. It will also promote 'Resettlement Saves Lives', a European campaign targeting 20,000 resettlement places annually by 2020 in Europe, link to the political priorities of the Committee of the Regions as expressed in the 2012 draft opinion of CIVEX 'Enhanced Intra-EU Solidarity in the Field of Asylum' and explore the implications of the Multiannual Financial Frameworks 2014-20 for resettlement and local actors in Europe.
Confirmed speakers include Rui Tavares MEP, Hilde Scheidt - Deputy Mayor of Aachen, Karl Kopp - PRO ASYL Director of European Affairs, Bernd Hemingway - IOM EU Office Regional Director, Johan Ketelers - ICMC Secretary General, Michael Diedring - ECRE Secretary General, Madeline Garlick - UNHCR Europe Head of Unit, Eurocities and others.
Please register your attendance by April 17. Please note that whilst we will do our best to accommodate all interested participants, places are limited.
